Algarve Portugal

The Algarve Portugal is an incredibly diverse region. Any holidaymaker can find an enjoyable way of filling their holiday hours. Add in a warm, sunny climate almost year round, and it’s hardly surprising that the Algarve region is the major tourist area in Portugal.With all that sunshine, naturally many holidaymaker's come in search of beaches, and they’re not disappointed. With around 270km of coastline, including everything from wide sandy beaches to secluded inlets, there’s something for everyone.

Location

The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal, incorporating, amongst others, the cities of Faro, Albufeira, Lagos, Olhão, Tavira, Portimão and Silves. The region's administrative centre is the city of Faro, which has its own international airport (Faro Airport) and University of the Algarve).

Portugal Algarve coast and beach

10km of golden sandy beach is just a ten minute walk away. There are plenty of restaurants sited along the beach and for those who prefer sunbathing with the sound of the sea, there are sun loungers and umbrellas for hire at various points along it's length.

Water sports are available in the summer months.

Travel

Faro International Airport is about 15km distance or 20 minutes by car. A number of budget airlines fly directly there from Gatwick. Other southern UK airports that fly to Faro include Bournemouth, Exeter, Bristol and Southampton.

The area in general

This part of the Algarve is famous for its fantastic golf courses there being more than a dozen within a 20 minute drive. The villa itself is within 10 minutes of six of these three of which are Championship courses.

The Tennis Academy, just three or four minutes away, is the largest outside tennis centre in Europe whilst there are also plenty of other courts to play on in the area.
